Gary Ablett is a favourite to win his fourth AFL Players’ Association Most Valuable Player Award after he again astonished the football industry with his ability to take his game to the next level.

Joining him is his midfield partner in crime Harley Bennell who continues to excite fans with his explosive pace and skills, while reliable defender Matthew Warnock rounds off the nominees.

Ablett won the AFL Player’ MVP three years running (2007-2009) and is one of the most respected players in the league so we will be hoping he can again bring home the Leigh Matthews trophy.

Gary will also be a prominent figure in the Best Captain category, while Campbell Brown has been nominated by his teammates for the Robert Rose Most Courageous Player Award.

Amongst the youngsters, Kyal Horsley’s bright start has been recognised by his peers with nomination for the Best First Year Player Award which is one of the most anticipated awards of the night.

As in previous years, the MVP voting process begins with each team voting for those three players which provide the best overall value to their own team.

Then, in the second round of voting, all AFL players choose from the list of 51 nominees to determine who will be the MVP (they cannot vote for players from their own team in second round).

The MVP remains the only peer voted award in the AFL industry and is celebrating its 30th year since conception.

The 2012 AFL Players’ Association MVP Award Winners will be announced on Tuesday 11 September at Peninsula, Shed 14 Central Pier, Docklands and will be broadcast exclusively on Fox Footy Channel at 9.30pm.
