The Gold Coast SUNS will challenge the match Review Panel charge laid against Campbell Brown when the tribunal meets tonight.

Brown was charged with a level three misconduct offence (325 demerit points, three-match sanction) for misconduct in that he made unreasonable and unnecessary contact to the face of James Strauss during the GC SUNS match against Melbourne on Saturday night.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Melbourne Football Club, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points).

This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three Offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction.

Brown has a bad record of six matches suspended within the last two years, increasing the penalty by 40 per cent to 455 demerit points and a four-match sanction.

He also has 18.75 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 473.75 points and a four-match sanction.

An early plea would have reduced the sanction by 25 per cent to 355.31 points and a three-match sanction.
