It has been one of the more intriguing battles of the pre-season.
Sam Day and Peter Wright have been in intense competition for the right to line-up in the second key forward position alongside Tom Lynch in round one this Saturday.
Senior coach Rodney Eade revealed it was an extremely close call between the two key position players, but Day’s experience and defensive capabilities earnt him first crack at locking down the full forward position in the SUNS’ senior line-up over the 2014 No. 8 draft pick.
“It was a really close call,” Eade told United Coaches Chat.

“All their stats, the indicators we’ve had is about equal. Game time, GPS figures, marks, number of times they get the ball.”
“It was probably a 51-49 call. Probably Sam’s experience won the nod and the fact that his speed to help defensively probably has given him the nod.
“But having said that, Pete’s not far away. His pre-season has been really pleasing, he’s ahead of where we thought he’d be and hopefully he’ll get in soon.”
