The Gold Coast SUNS will be looking to continue their form in this weekend’s Round to RizeUp match against Fremantle.
After beating top-four team Sydney Swans, the SUNS will be looking at title challengers Fremantle with renewed optimism.
Following an injury filled 2021, defender Connor Budarick had what many consider to be his best game since returning to the team, achieving a match high 11 marks to go with 19 disposals and 355 meters gained.
Budarick said the team was looking to harness the optimism following the team’s inspiring victory against Sydney.
“It’s really exciting, we have all gained heaps of confidence and belief, and we are all really looking forward to the next challenge that we have ahead of ourselves,” Budarick said.
“On the weekend we got that confidence that we are able to play our brand of footy up against a good team like Sydney.
“We have always had that internal belief that we are able to get the job done but to finally get the win on the weekend is really good.”
The SUNS will need to be in top form to best a Fremantle team with just one defeat all season.
Budarick discussed the mentality that the team will need to adopt to back up their win in Sydney.
“Take it with the same approach again, Sydney are a great team and Fremantle are in even better form so its going to be a great challenge,” Budarick said.
“We all feel up for the challenge and if we can perform our way and do what we need to do we can get the job done.”
With spirits in the team up, Budarick mentioned some of the key things that have been focused on in training this week.
“Mainly our contest work but also our ball movement and defence.
“We are tinkering with little aspects and have been putting a lot of work in the last few months, mainly around our ball movement, but also locking the ball in our front half and defending off that.”
