The AFL competition debut of the Gold Coast SUNS, in Saturday night’s Round One NAB Cup match drew outstanding national television support.

The GC SUNS matches, each shown live on Fox Sports, averaged 281,054 viewers across the night with a peak national audience of 317,00, this representing the highest-rating Pay Television program for the year thus far.

GC SUNS Chief Executive Travis Auld said he was delighted in the level of interest the SUNS first outing.

“We were thrilled with a number of aspects over the weekend,” Auld told goldcoastfc.com.au.

“On the field we were rapt to win through to the second round of the NAB Cup competition, we also saw a number of players step up at the level which gives us a lot to look forward to for the years ahead.

But what pleases Auld just as much as the win is the buzz that has been created off the field.

“We had a real boost in Membership sales over the weekend and our staff have been ran off their feet today; we also saw an increase on our social media channels during the game and the TV figures that came through this afternoon were very promising,” he added.

Fox Sports will broadcast the GC SUNS’ next match in the NAB Cup against the West Coast Eagles this Sunday at 6:40pm, live, from Patersons Stadium, Perth.
