The Gold Coast SUNS are closely monitoring the progress of Jared Brennan and Tom Murphy as the team prepares to host the Western Bulldogs at Metricon stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Brennan was felled after being collected high by Melbourne’s Colin Sylvia during the third term, while  Murphy and Jack Viney clashed heads as they attacked the footy with Murphy left lying dazed on the MCG turf.

Thankfully both players recovered quickly and have this week resumed light training in the hope of being passed fit to take on the Bulldogs.

Their  recovery monitored by Head fitness coach Paul Haines in consultation with the club’s medical staff.

“We had a couple of concussions from the weekend with Jars (Brennan) and also Tom Murphy, but the boys have pulled up pretty well and are on a bit of a modified program this week to ensure they come up well and have non re-occurrence of any concussion signs throughout the week.” Haines said.

“We have closely monitored them since the weekend and their signs are both clear this morning, so they did go for a walk this morning, we will continually monitor their progress and hopefully progress their programs.”

It’s also the first time the GC SUNS have had a short six day turn around between games.

“This is their first six day break for the year so it is a slightly different program to what they are used to, we are trying to condense as much of the seven days into six days and so yesterday we had a full day down the beach and tried to maximise their recovery as much as we possibly can and that’s the main goal for this week.”

“The guys have a light run a round and they have a bit of a kick, just to make sure we tick off all the main movements before main training.”

Both Brennan and Murphy will undergo more rigorous testing later in the week before a decision on their availability for Saturday's Round 8 encounter is made.
