The Gold Coast SUNS have consolidated its spot inside the top two on the VFL ladder with a dominant win over Port Melbourne at ETU Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The SUNS took control of the contest after conceding the game’s first two goals, kicking 12 majors to four after quarter-time to run out 17.13 (115) to 7.9 (51) victors.
Mabior Chol led the way for the SUNS, kicking four goals straight as one of four multiple goalkickers for the SUNS.
Brodie McLaughlin’s three first-half majors takes him to outright top in the VFL goalkicking stakes while the SUNS dominated right across the park.
After restricting the Borough to just 40 Inside 50s, the SUNS made the most of their possession dominance in midfield, led by Sam Flanders (31 touches), Charlie Constable (28), James Tsitas (27) and Jeremy Sharp (26) - the latter also kicking a superb goal from the 50m arc in the second term.
Alex Sexton and Sam Day kicked two goals apiece while Ned Moyle and Chris Burgess controlled proceedings in the ruck, also kicking a goal each.
The result sees the SUNS enter its second bye of the season with a 9-1 record and as the VFL’s highest scoring side, trailing only the Brisbane Lions on percentage. They next face the Northern Bullants on the road on Sunday, June 18.
