The Gold Coast SUNS wish to advise that Charlie Dixon and Jack Martin have been sanctioned for breaching team standards.
The pair admitted to consuming alcohol in their hotel rooms on Friday evening prior to the round nine match against Hawthorn in Launceston.
As a result, Dixon will be unavailable for senior selection this weekend while Martin, who is unavailable for this weekend’s match due to injury, will remain in the NEAFL side for an additional match when he returns from his hamstring strain following the bye.
GC SUNS captain, Gary Ablett, said the leadership group has dealt with the matter.
“We are extremely disappointed and embarrassed to be in this positon,” Ablett said.
"The team has met and our view is that these unacceptable and unprofessional behaviours must end.
“We have set new standards this year, and they must be adhered too.
“We expect our teammates to follow the professional standards that all elite sportspeople live by.”
GC SUNS coach, Rodney Eade, endorsed the club’s stance.
“Everyone at the club is disappointed by the actions of Charlie and Jack, the players know my thoughts, and importantly, the player leadership group have made their views really clear,” Eade said.
“The player leadership group are taking on challenges they haven’t had to deal with previously, it’s a new test for some of them, and the coaches and administration will support them in leading these difficult but necessary decisions in the correct manner.”
