The Gold Coast Suns will host six traditional Victorian teams and local rivals the Brisbane Lions at Metricon Stadium in 2018.
The 2018 Toyota AFL Premiership Season fixture released on Tuesday sees Geelong, St. Kilda, Richmond, Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon make the trip north, with the latter two falling in school holidays.
Chief Executive Mark Evans said the Suns were delighted with the final fixture in what is undoubtedly a blockbuster second half of the season for the Suns.
“We couldn’t be happier to see six big Victorian clubs come to Metricon Stadium in 2018,” he said.
“Despite an interrupted start to the season due to the Commonwealth Games, we are thrilled to be hosting the calibre of teams we are at Metricon Stadium in the second half of the season.
“Our first game back at Metricon Stadium in Round 11 against Geelong will be a huge welcome home party, and the fixture builds from there.
"We've worked incredibly hard with the AFL to deliver the mix of teams at Metricon Stadium and we thank the AFL for their assistance in scheduling these clubs in a year they understood was going to be challenging for our club and our members and fans on the Gold Coast."
Overall, the Suns play Geelong, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Carlton and Brisbane twice throughout the year with the majority of their games falling in the Saturday twilight timeslot.
With Metricon Stadium unavailable until Round 11 due to the Commonwealth Games the Suns take home games to Cazalys Stadium, Cairns (North Melbourne) the new Perth Stadium in Round 3 (Fremantle), the Gabba in Round 8 (Melbourne) and Adelaide Arena at Jiangwan Stadium, China (Port Adelaide).
The team will spend a week in Perth following the Round 3 game against Fremantle which will be followed by an away match against the West Coast Eagles at the same venue.
“It’s a unique season, but one we’re embracing,” Evans said.
Membership products for the 2018 season will be released within the coming week, with pricing and products to reflect the decrease in home games. In addition to access to the Round 8 home match at the Gabba against Melbourne, all full season Suns members will receive access to the Round 5 QClash at the Gabba as part of their 2018 membership.
All Suns matches will be broadcast live on FOX Footy across the country and on 7mate throughout Queensland.
