Saturday afternoon simply can’t quickly enough if you’re SUNS midfielder Matt Rowell.
The SUNS open its 2024 campaign on its home deck at Heritage Bank Stadium on Saturday afternoon (3.20pm first bounce) with the few remaining tickets becoming a hot commodity.
Just days out from his fifth season on the SUNS list, Rowell says he’s counting down the seconds.
“I’m really just looking forward to getting out there and playing for points,” Rowell said.
“The sooner the better to play games I reckon. We love playing footy, so bring it on.”
The SUNS head into Saturday’s clash with the wood over their opponents in recent meetings having won the last three encounters.
In-form Jack Lukosius says there’s plenty to review and build on following the SUNS’ first two pre-season hit outs under new Senior Coach Damien Hardwick.
“There’s lots to work and it’s going to take some time for us all… but I’m sure Dimma and the coaches have lots for us over the next few days to get ready for Saturday arvo,” Lukosius said.
“It’s going to be a great atmosphere… the boys will bring the energy.”
The season opener will mean just a little more to SUNS Academy product & proud Gold Coaster Connor Budarick. Following a wretched run with knee injuries, the 22-year-old is ready to hit the ground running with a full pre-season under his belt for the first time since 2021.
“I just feel really excited to be back playing footy. Obviously it gives me a lot of confidence having a full pre-season under the belt,” Budarick said.
“It’s not just a bit moment for myself and all the boys but for the Gold Coast public as well. It’s a big occasion to have Opening Round on the Gold Coast, especially against a side like Richmond.
“At the end of the day, it’s another game of footy for us and we just have to take that for what it is and play the best system of footy we can.”
Limited tickets remain for the match and fans are encouraged to secure their seats to avoid disappointment. Get your tickets HERE.
