Coming off a monster win against the Casey Demons last weekend, the SUNS will be ripe and ready to take on Frankston this Saturday at home.

Although, Frankston are sitting at tenth on the ladder, it doesn’t mean it will be an easy game for the SUNS, as they need a win to progress to the elimination final against Box-Hill Hawks.

What It Means

A win will see the SUNS face off against sixth-placed Box-Hill Hawks in an elimination final on the following weekend.

Following a VFL premiership win in 2023, the SUNS are looking to reach that position again, with a strong focus on executing the side’s system and game plan for the upcoming game.

The SUNS have had a great season this year with some big-margin wins, and some players emerging in form in the back half of the season.

Players to Watch

Team will be announced on Friday.

Pending selection, a key player to watch is Jack Lukosius as he had an influential role in last weekend’s game v Casey Demons, collecting five goals, 21 disposals, 14 marks, and 19 score involvements.

Brayden Fiorini is worth keeping an eye on in the midfield, averaging 33.1 disposals and 6.8 clearances per game. Fiorini will likely be matched against Thomas Murphy, one of Frankston’s most dominant midfielders this year with a season average of 22.7 disposals and 4.9 clearances.

Ned Moyle will come up against strong competition in the ruck against Angus Grant, Moyle with a season average of 38 hit outs and 8.4 clearances, and Grant with 29.1 hit outs and 4.2 clearances.

A player really building their form in the last half of the season is Hewago Oea, who played an electric game last weekend, finishing with two goals, 27 disposals, and eight marks.

A goal in the 2023 Grand Final, and with a VFL premiership already under his belt, Leo Lombard is a player to watch this weekend.

Last Time We Met

Last time the SUNS and Frankston faced off was in Round 14 where the SUNS fought off a prevailing side to take the win in the final quarter 12.8 (80) to 6.11 (47).

The SUNS led for the first three terms only by a couple of points, but with Ned Moyle kicking two goals, and collecting 22 disposals and a mammoth 71 hit outs.

This followed Lachlan Gulbin and Ethan Read both kicking a goal each in the final term, securing the SUNS a 33-point win.
