The SUNS head to North Queensland on the back of a disappointing defeat in Round 1, but Head Coach Cameron Joyce is expecting his side to respond at Great Barrier Reef Arena on Sunday afternoon.

“The big thing from last week is we don’t think it’s a true reflection of us. With the ball & without, we were off,” Joyce told media on Thursday morning.

“We just want to get back to some of the footy we were playing against the Lions & Bulldogs in pre-season.

“We’ll back in what we’ve been training throughout pre-season… I know they’ll respond.”

Sunday’s game marks the fourth consecutive year in which the SUNS have hosted an AFLW game in Mackay having also returned from the last two trips with the four points.

Whilst another four points are on the line this weekend on field, it’s yet another chance to help continue grow the game in North Queensland.

And for locals Lauren Bella and Wallis Randell, it’s the annual opportunity to put on a show in front of friends and family.

“We love travelling and those girls get an opportunity to go back home & play in front of family and friends,” Joyce continued.

“The growth of the game and women’s football is paramount to us. With our Academy and relationships up there, they’re important for us in terms of how we can help drive that growth in North Queensland.”

Tickets are available HERE for Sunday’s clash at Great Barrier Reef Arena – adults at just $15 with free entry for juniors under 18 years. Gates open at 12pm ahead of a 1.05pm first bounce.

If you can’t make it the game, catch all the action on Fox Footy, Kayo and the Seven network (check your local guides).
