The SUNS have informed Vivien Saad, Jordan Membrey, Ashanti Bush, Alana Gee, Cara McCrossan and Lauren McConville that they will not be offered contracts for the 2025 AFLW season.
Saad joined the SUNS ahead of the 2022 season and was a regular deep in defence across four seasons, playing 27 games before injury hampered her 2024 campaign.
Bush and Gee are products of the SUNS Academy from Darwin and Mackay respectively. Bush played 10 games for the SUNS, kicking two goals while Gee managed seven matches in three seasons impacted by injuries.
Gold Coast local Membrey was part of the SUNS set-up prior to its introduction into the AFLW and was the club’s inaugural Winter Series Captain & Player of the Series.
Irishwomen McCrossan and McConville became two of the latest Gaelic football converts to earn their opportunities in the AFLW. McCrossan played six matches during two seasons at the SUNS, while McConville played three games in 2024.
“We would like to thank Viv, Jordan, Ashanti, Alana, Cara and Lauren for their contributions to the Gold Coast SUNS,” GC SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said.
“Alana and Ashanti have both been members of our club for many years, firstly in the Academy before becoming part of our AFLW set-up, while Jordan also played a key role in our program before our expansion into the AFLW competition.
“They have all earned the opportunity to represent the club in the AFLW and played an important role in the continued development of our program.”
