SUNS midfielder Ben Ainsworth has been ruled out for at least the next six weeks after injuring his foot on Saturday night.
Ainsworth’s foot was trapped under an opposition player’s leg as he attempted to win the football and was forced into the turf under the weight.
Gold Coast’s Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull told the Alpha Sport Injury Update Ainsworth had fractured a bone in his foot and would require extensive rehabilitation.
“Ben suffered a fracture in his third metatarsal so that’s needed surgical fixation which he had last night [Monday],” Bull said.
“The surgery went really well so we’re hoping to see Ben back in the next 6-8 weeks.”
In good news, both Aaron Young and Brad Scheer are tracking well in their respective returns from knee and hand injuries.
“Youngy came out of his brace for his knee early last week,” Bull said.
“He’s done a lot of strength work every day since then and we’re hoping to see him running towards the back end of the week.
“Scheery got some good news from the surgeon over the weekend as well.
“Brad will start doing some more ball handling this week and he’s managed to keep up a lot of his running loads so once we get the all-clear from the surgeon in regards to how those fractures have healed in his hand he’ll be able to resume training as well.”
