On Wednesday night the Gold Coast SUNS hosted its 2019 Academy Awards Night, highlighting the achievements of the club’s Academy players this season.
The awards, which were presented at Metricon Stadium, included age group players of the year, staff member of the year and an all-ages Academy Team of the Year.
After sharing the Academy Player of the Year award at Gold Coast’s 2019 Club Champion, both Ellie Hampson and Connor Budarick took out individual awards and were named in the starting midfield in the Team of the Year.
Fleur Davies won the U16 Female Player of the Year award and was also named in the midfield in the Team of the Year after impressing as a ruck and key position player.
One of the best in Queensland’s U16 team in the National Championships, Bodhi Uwland claimed the U16 Male Player of the Year award.
Jed Walter took out the Academy Junior Male Player of the Year Award after a standout season with the U15 Queensland schoolboys side where he won All Australian honours, followed by a best on ground performance in Palm Beach Currumbin’s U14 Premiership.
23 players were recognised in all, earning selection in the 2019 Academy Team of the Year.
