Anthony Miles remembers just how little things changed as Richmond rose from also-rans to premiers in just one season.
It is that perspective that the new Gold Coast midfielder has brought to the Suns and why he has warned those already writing them off to do so at their peril.
Miles played more than 50 games in a row for the Tigers between 2014 and 2016 before he dominated in the VFL as he slowly fell down the pecking order at Punt Road.
Arriving on the Gold Coast in search of more top-flight opportunities, the 26-year-old will do his best to pass on the wisdom garnered from playing alongside Trent Cotchin and Dustin Martin.
However, that isn't all he picked up during his time at the Tigers.
"The thing I learnt at Richmond is that it doesn't take much to change," he said.
"A few little things make a big difference.
"Even from the top end down, it doesn't take much to influence how you go.
"So, in terms of writing us off I'd say at your own peril because I've seen it first-hand; Richmond coming from 13th to win the next year (in 2017)."
Miles left Richmond on good terms and even caught up with his former teammates while they were on the Gold Coast for a pre-season camp last week.
But the VFL's reigning best and fairest player said there's been no doubting his move north.
"In terms of fresh starts I couldn't have asked for much more," Miles said.
"Midfield spots will still be tough to come by here but that's the catalyst of the move obviously, to play more AFL footy.
"There's a lot of good young mids coming through, but I'm still pretty young myself and have plenty to offer."
