The Gold Coast SUNS Female Academy has six players who have been named in the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Academy squads.
Charlotte Hammans (Bond University), Kitara Farrar (South Cairns), Dee Heslop (Yeronga), Serene Watson (Bond University) and Ellie Hampson (Hermit Park) were named in the Level Two Squad (top-agers) while Annise Bradfield (Southport) was named in the Level One Squad (bottom-agers).
Hammans, Farrar, Heslop and Hampson have also represented the SUNS at Winter Series level this year.
The six Academy girls form part of the 48-player intake to the squads and receive a NAB AFL Women’s Academy scholarship that provides high performance camps and personal development opportunities over a 12-month period.
The first of three camps will be held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra from December 16, 2018.
The players will also join AFLW club training sessions throughout the AFLW preseason.
The Academy squad was selected from the recently completed 2018 NAB AFLW Under-18 Championships which were held at Metricon Stadium amongst other venues.
The NAB AFLW Academy is part of the NAB AFLW Rising Stars Program, which supports grassroots players and football communities and helps young Australians fulfil their dream of playing in the AFL and AFLW.
