On Monday SUNS coach Stuart Dew will take part in Big Freeze 4 in an attempt to find a cure for Motor Neuron Disease (MND).
Dew along with the other 17 AFL coaches will tackle the big slide and plunge into the icy water to raise money for Fight MND and its attempt to find a cure for the disease.
The proceedings will take place before Monday’s Queen’s Birthday clash between Melbourne and Collingwood at the MCG.
“(I’m) looking forward to it, I thought my days of ice baths were over but anything for Neale Daniher,” Dew told SUNS TV.
“I think externally you can see how selfless he is in his fight against this horrible disease and he’s putting everyone else before himself.”
Daniher, a former Essendon footballer and Melbourne coach, was diagnosed with MND in 2013 and is one of the most prominent campaigners for its cure.
Dew was given the opportunity to meet and learn from the 223-game coach in 2015 at the AFL's Level Four Senior Coach program where Daniher was a mentor at the time.
“Personally along my journey with level four he was heavily involved in that and he gives fantastic feedback and sat in on a couple of panels that I was up against,” Dew said.
“He was the one person to really ring and follow up and again he’s one of the most selfless people I’ve ever met.”
Dew says Daniher was the type of man to leave a lasting impression.
“I was lucky enough to be at a dinner with the level four when he gave the best speech I’ve ever heard about football,” Dew said.
“It’s just one of those ones you wished that someone had taped it so you could watch it over and over again.
“He’s a good man, so (I’ll do) anything for Neale.”
At least two Australians die each day as a result of MND.
