Gold Coast utility Callum Ah Chee says the SUNS are as united as ever despite the current adversity facing the playing group.
He says the team came together on Monday after the heartbreaking loss to St Kilda to reflect, recollect and reset.
“We’re a tight group and we’re all going to stick together through the hard times,” Ah Chee told the media on Monday.
“Every club goes through this so we can’t wait for another opportunity this week.”
That opportunity will be against Hawthorn in Tasmania, a venue the Hawks have made their fortress in recent times, only surrendering 11 of the 52 games they have played there.
But Ah Chee says their record means nothing when the ball is bounced at 1:45pm on Saturday.
“I think we go in every week thinking that we’re a chance,” he said.
“We played a good brand of footy on the weekend so we’ll take that into this week and we’re not going to shy away.”
The SUNS only have to look as far as 100km up the Pacific Motorway for proof.
The Brisbane Lions stormed to their first win of the season over Hawthorn in Round 9, overcoming a quarter-time deficit to steamroll the Hawks by 56 points at the Gabba.
Ah Chee says the SUNS can inflict the same result, but need to be better at executing the game plan for all four quarters.
“Obviously every team’s different but we’ll take what our strengths are and we’re really going to take it to them,” he said.
“Even though it’s in Tassie, we’ve travelled around Australia the whole year so we’re ready for it.”
