Saturday’s third and final Winter Series game against the Brisbane Lions looms as an exciting contest for Gold Coast’s Women’s team.
The clash will give the SUNS players the chance to test themselves against a side that has made consecutive AFLW grand final appearances.
One player who will be very familiar with the opposition is Selina Goodman, who was part of Brisbane’s inaugural squad.
The forward is looking forward to coming up against her old side at Metricon Stadium and expects the game to be played in good spirits.
“Yeah there will be (a bit of a rivalry) but I think it will be a bit of friendly fire,” Goodman told SUNS TV.
“It will be lovely to play against them again but this time wearing the SUNS jersey and it’ll be good fun on Metricon Stadium.”
Goodman is particularly looking forward to coming up against a familiar face in Brisbane’s Arianna Clarke.
The two have played plenty of footy together at grassroots level playing for Coolangatta in the QWAFL competition.
But come 4.50pm on Saturday they will need to put their friendship aside as they do battle on the footy field.
“I’ve grown up with her I’ve played footy with her at club level and it’ll be awesome to be on the other side of the paddock playing against her at an elite level.”
