The Gold Coast SUNS are set to host three talent ID days across Gold Coast and North Queensland in early 2018, giving aspiring women footballers the chance to showcase their skills.
Players will be selected to represent the SUNS in the winter series against teams from the GWS Giants and Brisbane Lions in 2018 and 2019.

“We know that 2020 is still a couple of years away but to have, in 2018, girls running around in our colours against other AFL teams is going to be quite special,” Gold Coast CEO Mark Evans told the media on Thursday.
“We’re really excited that…the female footballers on the Gold Coast, Northern Rivers and Northern Queensland, that for them to be able to aspire to get to the AFL Women’s competition in 2020 and to represent their communities with such great pride.”
The hard work of AFL Queensland has been a key driver in increasing female participation across the state, with 100,000 women and girls engaging in programs and competitions and 70 new female teams formed.
At the Talent ID days, women will participate in a variety of combine styles tests under the watchful eye of Gold Coast coaching staff.
Current AFL players with future aspirations to play AFLW, as well as athletes from other sports are all welcome at the Talent ID days, provided they are aged 16 or over.
