The North Queensland Army male and female AFL teams will wear Gold Coast’s colours and kit in the upcoming Inter-Brigade Service Carnival in Brisbane this week and in the future.

The two teams are currently on the Gold Coast training for the carnival which runs from Tuesday to Thursday at Aspley.

The men and women were granted special access to Metricon Stadium’s training fields and changerooms in preparation for the matches, as well as being treated to a tour and lunch at the Austworld Centre.

The teams, which are based out of Townsville, will play two games against fellow servicemen and women from Darwin and Brisbane.

Male team captain Jake Moroney said the team were excited to be training at the home of the Gold Coast SUNS.

“It’s absolutely sensational here – the lads are loving it and it’s a great opportunity we’ve been given here,” Moroney told SUNS Media.

“We’ve got two games on Wednesday and Thursday so it should be a tough, hard tournament.

“We’re really happy with the kit, wearing the Gold Coast SUNS jumper, it should be a good showdown out there.”

Female captain Eloise O’Connor told SUNS Media the team were keen to show off their new playing kit this week. 

“I reckon we look fabulous and I can’t wait to take to the field in the red and gold on Wednesday,” she said.

Both teams will play their matches on Wednesday and Thursday before flying back to Townsville on Friday.
