Last year’s No. 8 draft pick Callum Ah Chee arrived at Metricon Stadium in December as a highly regarded outside midfielder/half forward boasting elite pace and agility.
His relatively light frame was likely to take a couple of pre-seasons in the gym to be able to match it with the bigger bodies at the elite level so a strong reliance on his outside game in his formative stages was a foregone conclusion.
However, against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday, the West Australian collected an equal team-high 10 contested possessions (17 total), demonstrating an impressive ability to win his own footy.

“I think I’m definitely getting better in that area,” Ah Chee told SUNS TV on Tuesday afternoon.
“Obviously I’ve grown up playing a lot of outside football but I think I can win my own ball and I’m developing that part of my game so hopefully I can take that further into my career and go from there.”
Ah Chee credited ‘doing the extras away from the club’ and a strong focus on recovery, preparation and diet behind his recent good form.
With six games remaining in season 2016, the 18-year-old has simple goals in place; to get his body right and finish the year with some consistency.
“I just want to find that continuity in my body,” he said.
“Obviously I’m a young kid and it’s a massive adjustment at AFL level, so I’m looking to finish the season consistently and not have any injuries.
“I want to play some good football and I want to play my role for the team and in that area I want to finish my goal and things like that, bring my pressure and do what I can to get the team over the line.”
