What would it look like if over 200 Gold Coast kids spelt your name out on the field at Metricon Stadium?
Jaeger O’Meara found out.
The SUNS midfielder was visibly delighted by the surprise, clapping in excitement at the initial unveiling.
“It was a massive surprise, I didn’t really know what to expect,” he told SUNS TV.
“It’s a bit different having your name written in people on the ground.”
Crafting Jaeger’s name was part of a Jaeger’s Day Out school holiday program organised by the club which saw over 200 local children participate in a day of activities centred around AFL football.
In addition to being able to meet their idol and namesake of the program, O’Meara personally introduced participants to the 11 players who joined the club since the end of last season.
O’Meara name has been attached to the Jaeger’s Juniors program since his debut in 2013.
“It’s been going on for a few years now so it’s something that the club really wanted to set up and give the younger kids the ability the follow a younger player,” he said.
“Hopefully the kids have had some enjoyment in following my career and hopefully I can get back out on the field and they can follow me again and grow the game on the Gold Coast.”
