The Gold Coast SUNS Fans Player of the Year, presented by Alto Cucina & Bar, will see one senior player crowned the 2014 Player of the Year as voted by you, the fans!
Star captain Gary Ablett was the runaway winner in 2013, but after the opening three rounds of the new season, it seems Gold Coast’s champion midfielder will have some stiff competition if he is to take it out the gong again this year.
With that said, Ablett’s performance in the SUNS’ 53-point win over the Brisbane Lions in QClash 7 was sublime, finishing with 38 possessions, 10 tackles, six clearances and a bag of three goals to clinch his second Marcus Ashcroft medal.
David Swallow continued his fine start to the season, picking up with 26 touches and a couple of goals while big man Sam Day kicked a career high four goals, showing why he is becoming a focal point in the SUNS’ forward line.
Steven May kept Lions’ star Jonathan Brown to just four possessions for the game while having 18 of his own, providing plenty of rebound from half back. He adds to the scalps of Tyrone Vickery and Matthew Pavlich who he’s already claimed in 2014.
Jaeger O’Meara, Dion Prestia and rookie Kade Kolodjashnij also had fine games against the Lions and selecting a 3-2-1 from the QClash victory will be a tough task.
