The Gold Coast SUNS look set to bolster its team ahead of Saturday’s match against Adelaide at Metricon Stadium, with three senior SUNS on the verge of a return.

Matthew Warnock will return from an arm injury, while Harley Bennell and Charlie Dixon all face fitness tests ahead of selection this weekend.

Bennell hasn’t played since the GC SUNS  Round 8 victory over the Western Bulldogs having missed four matches with a hamstring injury while Dixon missed the final match before the mid-season bye against the Bombers with an ankle injury.

It has been a longer journey back for key defender Matthew Warnock, who fractured his arm in the GC SUNS round 4 clash against Port Adelaide and has spent the subsequent nine weeks on the sidelines.

GC SUNS General Manager Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft told goldcoastfc.com.au that Warnock would return this weekend.

“Matthew has recovered from his fractured arm and will play this weekend. Having missed nine weeks of football the match committee will need  determine if he returns through the NEAFL or if he plays senior footy immediately.”

“As forecast at the time Matthew’s fracture was significant but pleasingly his rehabilitation has gone according to plan and he returns for the second half of the season.”

Ashcroft said Bennell and Dixon would need to be passed fit by club medicos before gaining selection.

“Harley will be very close to proving his fitness and similar to Charlie, if they both complete training this week and are given the thumbs up by our staff they will return to football this weekend.”
