The Gold Coast SUNS have commenced interviewing candidates for the Club’s vacant development coaching role, with a number of former players on the GC SUNS shopping list.
As revealed in the Gold Coast Bulletin this morning, former Brisbane Lions champion, Simon Black, is one of the potential candidates.
“We’ve definitely told Simon that we’re interested in having a chat,” said GC SUNS Football Operations boss, Marcus Ashcroft.
“He is one of a number of potential candidates we want to talk to – we’ve probably got to speak with seven or eight.”
The club regrettably released highly-regarded development mentor Ben Mathews from his contract in September, with the former Sydney Swans Premiership player taking up a great opportunity to join Paul Roos and his new-look coaching panel at the Melbourne Football Club.
Ashcroft however confirmed that the GC SUNS would speak to a variety of candidates to fulfil the role.
“We have approached it with an open mind, we are committed to finding the best possible development coach for our players, whether that be a player who has recently retired from the game, or a coach that has several years experience coaching either in Queensland or throughout the country.”
