A common theme during the diabolical injury curse before the bye was opportunity. In the absence of more seasoned players across the ground, Rodney Eade and the football department were forced to play first, second and third-year players earlier than they would have envisaged.
But a silver lining from an undesirable situation is the invaluable development opportunity a handful of young players have enjoyed during the early part of 2015.
One player that has been lauded by Eade at different times of this season is Touk Miller. The tenacious midfielder is one of only three players to play every game so far this season, and his professionalism is something that has stood out according to stand-in-captain Michael Rischitelli.
“It's pretty amazing for a first-year player to play the games he has so far. It's a credit to him,” Rischitelli told the media on Friday morning.
“He's a pretty professional young bloke. It really gets noticed around the club, so hopefully we can get a lot more guys like Touk to be as professional as him.
“It’s obviously not what we wanted, guys getting injured and what not. But what it does is give an opportunity to young blokes to try and step up, like Touk and Kade [Kolodjashnij] and Sean Lemmens as well.
“It gives them an opportunity to step up. It’s not what we wanted, but it gives those guys some good experience.”
Miller's professionalism turning heads
Michael Rischitelli says that first-year midfielder Touk Miller has impressed with his professional approach to his football.
