The third annual Gold Coast SUNS Sleepout is set to return to Metricon Stadium this Friday 13 November.

Approximately 750 young people on the Gold Coast are homeless and living on the streets every night.

The event aims to raise awareness and much needed funds to combat this number.

Significantly, those staying the night will be amongst the first people ever to sleep out on the field at Metricon Stadium.

Gold Coast SUNS midfielder, Mitch Hallahan, who will be joining the Sleepout along with his teammates, said it’s an issue that hits home with him.

“It’s a pressing issue, and it’s something I can sort of relate with, being only 23 years old myself,” Hallahan said.

“I find it pretty confronting that there are youth that spend the night on the street.”

“We’re trying to emulate as close to what the homeless youth experience each night,” he explained.

“I guess it will open our eyes to what these youth are facing.”

This year's GC SUNS Sleepout will be jam-packed with entertainment for the whole family, including kid’s activities, movies on the big screen, an AFL playground and kick-to-kick on the main field.

GC SUNS players will also be in attendance.

“It’s worth coming down and sharing the experience with family and friends,” he said.

“We can bring some awareness to what is happening, shed some light, and raise a bit of money to put towards projects that will help the homeless youth on the Gold Coast.”

Entry is $10 for adults, $5 for kids and $25 for a family (two adults and up to four three children).

All funds raised will go directly to the Stocking Fund, supporting the Gold Coast Youth Service, the Project for Homeless YouthGold Coast Inc. and YHES House.

“I think all the help we can give will benefit in the long run.”
