With the AFL Trade Period set to commence on Monday, the rumour mill is running rife around the country with a handful of news outlets linking potential moves in and out of the Gold Coast SUNS.
goldcoastfc.com.au will advise fans of any trade as soon as it has been lodged with the AFL, however below is a summary of what media around the country are reporting.
OUT’s
Harley Bennell
The Herald Sun reports that Harley Bennell has nominated Fremantle as his club of choice after meeting with the Western Australian side in the past few days.
It is understood that Dockers coach Ross Lyon is keen on luring the Gold Coast midfielder west to bolster his side that lost to eventual premiers Hawthorn in this year’s preliminary final.
According to AFL.com.au, Bennell has made his intentions clear to both Fremantle and Gold Coast, and the Dockers have reportedly offered him a three-year deal.
The 23-year-old was put up for trade by the SUNS in early September after being involved in another off-field indiscretion and it has been widely expected he would seek a move back to his home state.
West Coast ruled out any chance of recruiting Bennell, leaving the Dockers as the only option in his home state.
The Gold Coast SUNS have reiterated the club will seek the best possible trade in exchange for Bennell.
Charlie Dixon
Port Adelaide is prepared to part ways with their first pick, No. 10, in exchange for Gold Coast power forward Charlie Dixon.
And the compensation may not end there, with the club not dismissing the addition of other picks or a player in the deal to lure Dixon to Alberton.
“We understand it’s going to take a first-round pick and that’s where we’re at right now,” Port Adelaide GM of Football Chris Davies told AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday.
“Both clubs need to feel like they’re getting something out of the deal. We need to make sure Gold Coast feel like they’re getting a reasonable return.
“Our focus is making sure Charlie Dixon gets to our club.”
