Star midfielder David Swallow has been transferred from the long term injury list back to the Gold Coast SUNS primary list after being cleared to resume playing by the medical team, as well as completing the minimum eight-week requirement to be classified as a long term injury.

With last year’s club champion returning from injury, Andrew Raines will be forced to return to the club’s rookie list after he was promoted in Swallow’s absence in round five.

Raines will be available for selection this weekend with the former Brisbane Lions and Richmond midfielder set to be elevated back onto the primary list in place of Dion Prestia, who is out for the remainder of 2015 with a knee injury.

The current state of AFL lists, with a segregation between primary and rookie lists, has been the subject of widespread debate this season with some clubs unable to select players they otherwise would have due to an inability to promote them to the primary list.

St Kilda were faced with this decision this week with rookies Adam Schneider and Jack Sinclair competing for one available spot due to list constraints. Schneider was given the nod, with Sinclair forced to go back on the rookie list despite playing ten of the first eleven games.
