Gold Coast will be gunning for its first win in front of a home crowd at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night when they take on bottom-placed Carlton.

All four of Gold Coast’s wins in 2018 have come on the road, discounting the fact two matches were classified as home games outside of the Gold Coast.

One of those early-season wins was against the Blues back in Round 2, but SUNS coach Stuart Dew says that win will have minimal bearing when Carlton come to the Gold Coast for Round 19.

“When you look at who played for us in Round 2 and even their side, we’re going to be totally different,” Dew told SUNS TV.

“We don’t spend a lot of time looking at the last time given it was 16 weeks or so ago.

“We’ve looked at their best from the last few weeks when they’ve been in form.

“We know they’ve got some influential players so we’re certainly preparing for them to come up here and challenge us and we’re really keen to win a home game no doubt.”

Defeating a then top-four team in Sydney is an entirely different proposition to facing a side sitting 18th on the AFL ladder, which is the scenario before the SUNS this week.

But Dew says the opposition’s ladder position makes no difference to the preparations, it’s all about the football.

“We can look to our own result last week that if we don’t get our attitude right, the game can bite you pretty quickly,” Dew said.

“We’re firmly focussed on backing up our efforts from last week to solidify our momentum and obviously we’re in it to win as many games as we can.

“Saturday presents another opportunity (for that).”
