Gold Coast midfielder Harley Bennell is likely to miss a further two or three matches after aggravating his calf last week.
Bennell re-injured himself in a bid to prove his fitness prior to the match against Fremantle in Perth last week Despite the frustration, Bennell told goldcoastfc.com.au that he would now concentrate in rehabilitating his calf.
“Unfortunately I pulled up sore again last week, it has been pretty frustrating start to the season, but all I can do is concentrate on getting it right.
“There is still plenty of football to be payed this year and that’s why its important to get it right.” Bennell added.
General Manager - Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, said it was a disappointing result, but believed it wouldn’t be long until Bennell will be back to his best.
“Harley has been dogged by the injury for a little while now, it started during the pre-season, he managed to get back and play against Brisbane in the NAB Challenge, but regrettably he hasn’t been able to shake the injury.
“We believe by stepping back and giving him a couple of weeks to get it right, will give him the best chance at ensuring he plays plenty of football in 2014,” Ashcroft said.
