SUNS midfielder Jamie Stanton has capped off an outstanding individual season to claim the top honour in Gold Coast’s 2020 AFLW Club Champion vote count on Tuesday night.
Stanton led the count from Round 1 and couldn’t be tracked down, going on to win with 187 total votes, seven votes clear of Lauren Ahrens and Jade Pregelj in joint second place.
It was a prolific season for the 24-year-old who was Gold Coast’s first expansion signing and was also voted into the leadership group this season.
Stanton is one of only a handful of 30-game players in the competition and was nominated for the 2020 Toyota AFLW All Australian squad.
She played all seven matches, averaging 17 disposals, three marks and four tackles per game.
Her best effort came in Round 5 against Geelong in Mackay, with the midfielder racking up 23 disposals, five tackles and a goal in the loss, also polling two AFLW Best and Fairest votes.
Stanton was announced as the winner during the SUNS’ virtual Club Champion event and was presented her award by reigning men’s Club Champion Jarrod Witts.
The Club Champion Award was voted on by the AFLW coaching panel, with the Head Coach and three Assistant Coaches assigning players a score from one to 10 based on their efforts during each particular game.
