He’d played 99 AFL games prior to Saturday, but few would have left an impression on Greg Broughton like his 100th after he played a starring role in the GC SUNS’ win over the Magpies.
Broughton was one of his club’s best and led the possession count through three quarters in his milestone match. He also helped steady Gold Coast’s backline in the absence of Trent McKenzie (hamstring) and Sean Lemmens (concussion) throughout the game.
“Super excited. Great effort by the boys,” Broughton said.
“A couple of soldiers went down in that third quarter, so to hold on like that and get the four points was a great effort.
“In the end there, I thought they were going to out-run us, but for us to hold on like that, it’s going to be a memorable one.”
The West Australian will be part of a patched up backline when the SUNS head to Cairns for next Saturday’s clash with the Western Bulldogs.
“Very important to back up after this week,” he said.
“It’s going to be tough travel, but we’ve got to regroup and recover and plan ahead and go up there and try to get the four points.”
