The Gold Coast SUNS are set to invite former Brisbane Lions tagger Andrew Raines to train with the club in the lead up to the pre-season and rookie draft.
Raines - who was granted an early release from the Lions in August - has expressed a desire to add to the 123 AFL games he played with Brisbane and Richmond.
The 28-year-old seasoned midfielder played four senior matches for the SUNS’ QClash rivals this season.
He has been described as an elite trainer and an ultimate professional, with his thirst for hard work making him a positive role model for the club’s young list.
General Manager of Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, said the club was looking forward to providing Raines with an opportunity to train with the Gold Coast.
“We’re looking forward to having Andrew train with us over the next three weeks leading into the draft period", Ashcroft said.
Delisted key defender Greg Broughton also received an official invite, however, the club has made it clear it is committed to redrafting the former Docker during the upcoming draft period.
Because the club has no listed veteran, the SUNS can list Broughton as a nominated rookie, meaning he is still eligible to play senior footy.
Both players will start working with the team on Monday when the full playing list returns for pre-season training.
