Tom Lynch leapfrogged Sam Day on Gold Coast’s goalkicking chart last weekend, but the big South Australian appears completely unpeturbed by his demotion from the top spot.

Lynch bagged five majors in the GC SUNS’ victory over GWS, which took him to 12 goals for the season. After starting 2014 with eight goals in three games - which included a four-goal haul against Brisbane – Day has booted just two further six-pointers in matches against Hawthorn, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Personal pride aside, Day admits he isn’t worried about who keeps the scoreboard ticking over this weekend against North Melbourne.

“As long as the whole team is working together and us as a forward group really try to gel well together it doesn’t really matter who ends up kicking the goals,” Day said.

“It’s about us kicking the goals, not I, so it doesn’t matter for me.”

The much-vaunted, three-pronged tall forward setup featuring Day, Lynch and Charlie Dixon has again struggled to get game time together this season.

With Dixon back in the frame for senior selection this weekend after an encouraging hitout in the NEAFL last Saturday, Day believes the Kangaroos will have their hands full if Gold Coast’s midfield can win its fair share of the Sherrin.

“I think Charlie will be welcomed back pretty well,” he said.

“He’s just another big body to take up another defender.

“I think once all three of us are firing and injury-free, we’ll be pretty hard to stop.”
