Six Gold Coast SUNS players have stacked the 2014 AFL Players' 22Under22 team named at a gala event in Melbourne on Tuesday night.
Harley Bennell, Kade Kolodjashnij, Steven May, Trent McKenzie, Dion Prestia & David Swallow have all been named in the team.
Tom Lynch and Jaeger O'Meara were also named in the 40-man 22Under22 squad, however missed the final cut.
It’s the second time McKenzie and Prestia have been named in the team. In 2013, they joined teammates Tom Nicholls, O’Meara & Rory Thompson in the inaugural 22Under22 team.
The selection on Bennell, Kolodjashnij, May and Swallow means the SUNS have had nine players nominated for the team in the last two seasons, five more players than any other club.
Essendon young gun Dyson Heppell was named captain for a second consecutive year and Hawthorn forward Jack Gunston selected as the vice-captain.
The AFL Players' Association called on all footy fans to help decide the team by picking their best 22Under22 via the AFL Players' Facebook page last month, and after thousands of votes were cast, the definitive 22Under22 team was decided.
12 of the 18 teams had a player in the final 22 – the SUNS boasting twice as many players as the next most represented team, Collingwood. Adelaide, Essendon and the Western Bulldogs each had two players selected.
Nine of the 22 were selected in last years team.
