Collingwood looks set to try to put the shackles on the free-wheeling GC SUNS when the teams meet at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.

Gold Coast has cracked the 100-mark in six of its last nine outings. On five of those occasions the SUNS have grabbed the four premiership points, with the only anomaly coming when they went down to West Coast by three points at Patersons Stadium last month.

Magpies utility Tyson Goldsack said his team will have to absorb plenty of pressure from the home side before hitting them on the rebound.

“We know what they can do,” Goldsack said.

“They beat Geelong so they’re a good team, they’re knocking off good sides. Up there on their home turf they’re kind of making something of it.

“So it’s up to us to go up there and do what we want to do, probably defend before we attack, because they attack really well, so if we can stop that then hopefully we’ll expose them going forward.”

The Magpies returned home seven-point losers last season when the teams met at Metricon, but this year there is even greater importance placed on this fixture with the teams jostling for places in the bottom half of the top eight.

A SUNS win would put them equal on points with the ‘Pies, but Collingwood’s superior percentage would more than likely keep it above Gold Coast on the ladder.

“They’ve proven this year, more so than last year, that they’re a team to be reckoned with,” Goldsack said.

“We know that they’ve got good players; we’ll try to shut down the main ones and expose the weaker ones, if they have any.

“It’ll be a good week. I don’t mind getting on the road. We don’t do it very often. We’ll get some sunshine, as well, because I could probably do with it.”
