Local radio station 92.5 Gold FM rallied to the cause assisting the Gold Coast SUNS with their inaugural membership telephone and it didn’t take long for the phones to start ringing with injured defender and Vice Captain Nathan Bock joining rising star Brandon Matera, Guy McKenna and assistant coach Matt Primus to man the phones and welcome the clubs newest members.
By late afternoon the membership team celebrated another milestone with the 9,000th GC SUNS member signing on for the 2013 season, the final tally 9,138 at the time of publishing.
Speaking on air to GOLD FM’s morning crew, GC SUNS CEO Travis Auld said the Club urgently needed the fans and supporters from the wider Gold Coast community to jump on board as members ahead of the 2013 AFL Season.
“We’ve been really encouraged by the amount of support we’ve been getting from our community, they’ve gotten behind us for the last two years and it’s time as a Football Club we return the favour on-field in 2013,” said Auld.
“There are a lot of expectations for us this year and we welcome that, the big thing for us is to encourage our supporters to sign on as members because memberships are the life-blood of any Football Club and we have to get that number up to 15,000 and then push towards our goal of 20-ONE-3 really quickly.”
Auld said the Club remained committed to achieving 20-ONE-3 targets which would enable the GC SUNS to achieve sustainable success on and off the field, reminding GOLD FM listeners that the Club was reliant on community support to reach it’s goal of 20,000 members.
“Our Chairman John Witheriff set a very bold target by launching 20-ONE-3… but for us 20-ONE-3 starts with 20,000 members for a reason.”
“We need the support of this community so we can keeping competing against those big clubs down south to give our players the best resources available to be successful, and so that is what today is all about.”
