The names Matera and Subiaco Oval go together like Torvill and Dean and on Saturday, they will be reunited.

Sure, the name has changed to Patersons Stadium and the Matera involved is a 19-year-old playing for Gold Coast SUNS, but the principle is the same.

Brothers Peter, Phil and Wally all played for West Coast and their family name is synonymous with AFL in the west.

And on Saturday, Wally's son Brandon will grace the ground his dad and uncles made famous when the GC SUNS play Fremantle.

Brandon played a NAB Cup match there, but missed the GC SUNS previous trip west to play the Eagles in round 11 with a groin injury and is making his first appearance since recovering from the problem.

He said he could not wait to play on the ground his dad and uncles carved out their reputations on.

"All you want to do is play in front of your home crowd and I was pretty disappointed to miss out last time due to injury. I can't wait to get out there," Matera said.

"Peter and Phil had some great games there, so it'll be good to be out there.

"I just love going over there and playing in front of my family and friends, that's the main reason why I want to go back and hopefully I can put on a show for them."

The Materas are West Australian legends for good reason.

Peter played 253 matches in total, including West Coast's 1992 and 1994 premierships.

His five-goal haul and Norm Smith Medal in 1992 will live long in the memory.

Phil made his name as a superb small forward, kicking 389 goals from his 179 matches, while Wally was one of the Eagles founders, playing 24 matches for the club in 1987 and 1988 before playing another 32 with Fitzroy.

Brandon hinted that he expected to play controlled minutes - possibly as a substitute - to ensure his return from injury was a safe one.

He said if they could tidy up a few areas of last week's performance against the Western Bulldogs, they were in with a big chance of upsetting Fremantle.

"We played pretty well last week, I thought we were on top of the Bulldogs the whole game, we just missed our chances in front of goal," he said.

"Everything we did was right and [our] structures went well so hopefully we can stick to that this week and kick straight."
