The Gold Coast SUNS and Huawei Australia announced on Saturday night that Metricon Stadium has become the first Wi-Fi connected stadium in Queensland.
The project follows a decision by Metricon Stadium to invest in world-class solutions to better connect guests with the stadium and deliver an enhanced fan experience to stadium patrons.
Gold Coast SUNS CEO, Mr Andrew Travis said, “This project is a great win for Metricon Stadium and the Gold Coast SUNS. These services will support the GC SUNS to further engage our already passionate fans through rich digital content and super-fast internet Wi-Fi.
“We pride ourselves on offering the best possible match day experience and this will take that to the next level, delivering on our commitment to our fans and the broader events community.” Travis said.
Whilst patrons enjoyed wireless connectivity for the first time this evening, from 2016, fans will be met with a fully-connected match day experience, enhancing the way people consume their footy, find their seat, avoid queues, order merchandise and connect with partners.
The solution enables the 25,000 seat stadium to take a quantum leap in terms of fan experience and provides new business opportunities to the GC SUNS club and the stadium.
Huawei Australia CEO, Xichu (James) Zhao said the Huawei Agile Stadium Solution would change the way Australian’s experience live sport.
“Huawei is excited to contribute to Metricon Stadium’s long term digital transformation plans and to redefine the stadium experience,” said Mr Zhao. “Following the successful deployment of Huawei’s Agile Stadium Solution in Europe’s largest football stadiums, I am really proud Australians can now also enjoy a different viewing experience while cheering for their team.”
The Gold Coast SUNS and Huawei Australia announced a five year sponsorship in April which saw Huawei become the club’s official technology and ball partner.
The sponsorship agreement was announced by Huawei Australia Board Director and former Victorian Premier, the Hon. John Brumby.
