Four of the Gold Coast SUNS young guns will head back to Arizona on the eve of the 2012 season. Josh Caddy, Sam Day, Trent McKenzie and Josh Toy will travel to the US high altitude base at Flagstaff University on Sunday for 15 days of intensive training.
GC SUNS High Performance Manager, Andrew Weller and assistant coach Dean Solomon will accompany the players on the trip.
Marcus Ashcroft, GC SUNS General Manager – Football Operations, told goldcoastfc.com.au that the players were heading back to Arizona in a bid to have them ready for selection in Round 1 of the home and away season.
“The four players have all had interrupted pre-seasons in one way or another, and we believe that this is a great opportunity for the boys to give themselves every chance to be ready for round 1.”
Ashcroft said the playing group returned from Arizona in November with fantastic results and said the idea behind sending the four players back prior to the start of the season was for them to benefit in the same way.
“Our results pre-Christmas were outstanding and the majority of the players have been able to maintain that over the pre-season. This trip give will give these guys the opportunity to reach a higher level in a shorter period of time and we think that will benefit them all season.”
The contingent heading to Arizona will depart on Sunday, returning following round 1 of the NAB Cup.
