While Saturday’s loss to Essendon all but ended Gold Coast’s chances of playing finals, there were many positives the SUNS could take out of the game including some solid individual performances.
Vice-captain Tom Lynch continued his outstanding year up forward, leading the way with his intense work rate to take eight marks (six marks inside-50) and kick 4.2 against the Bombers.
Post-game, Lynch credited the SUNS midfield for their delivery of the football in the second half, and the core midfield group provided plenty of run and carry throughout the day.
Dion Prestia collected 28 disposals and kicked a couple of crucial goals in the third quarter. He was well supported by Harley Bennell with 27 possessions and Jaeger O’Meara with 24.
David Swallow was at his combative best, finishing with 27 disposals (16 contested), nine clearances, eight tackles, five inside 50s and a goal.
Brandon Matera (19 possessions, five inside 50s, two goals, two goal assists) and Jack Martin (17 possessions, nine marks, five inside 50s, two goal assists) provided spark for the SUNS up forward.
