After a five-week stint on the road, the SUNS AFLW team is back at home for Round 7 to take on Richmond at Metricon Stadium on Friday night.
The SUNS had a tough matchup against a rampant Adelaide outfit at Norwood Oval on Saturday, but senior coach David Lake stressed the importance the team finish the season strongly at home.
“From our point of view is a footy club last year we won two and a half games, and there's still three opportunities in front of us that we need to take now at Metricon,” Lake said post-match.
“It will be nice to sleep in our own beds and have a normal week for three weeks in a row and see what we can get out of the last part of the year.
“Certainly we're looking to win and we're looking to learn from today (Round 6 v Adelaide).”
Lake said that despite the scoreline against the Crows, his team competed well and was able to match one of the competition’s best sides in many of the stats.
“It was a great opportunity to learn against a really good footy side and work out where we’ve got to go,” Lake said.
“All our stats were around the money - we just couldn't get the return on the end of ours.
“I was pleased because we were actually able to recompose ourselves and continue to get back in the fight, which we've struggled to do up until this point so that was really good.”
The SUNS end the season with three-straight games at Metricon Stadium.
The first opportunity comes this Friday night when the club hosts Richmond at 6:40pm. Member redemption and ticket information will be available in the coming days.
