Premiership fancy Port Adelaide have recorded a 50-point triumph over a lacklustre Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.
Despite a strong showing in the final quarter, the SUNS showed only glimpses of what the team has proven to be capable of in 2021 as the Power eventually sealed the 12.9 (81) to 4.7 (31) victory.
After Ben King kicked the opening goal of the game, Port took charge, punishing turnovers from the home team with swift ball movement.
In contrast, any time the SUNS went forward either Aliir Aliir – vying with Ollie Wines for best afield honours - or Trent McKenzie were there to cut it off.
Vice-captain Touk Miller could hold his head high with another gutsy performance while second-year midfielder Noah Anderson was also amongst the best.
But there weren’t enough contributors across the park for the SUNS.
David Swallow left the field with a head knock in the opening quarter and was replaced by medical substitute Brayden Fiorini at quarter time.
The SUNS are slated to take on North Melbourne in Round 15 in a week’s time at Blundstone Arena in Tasmania.
