It wasn’t our first win, but it was certainly the Gold Coast’s most memorable with the GC SUNS claiming a thrilling inaugural QClash at the Gabba last year.

Those same rivalries exist in the NRL with little love lost between the Gold Coast Titans and Brisbane Broncos and on Friday July 20, rugby league’s closest rivals clash at Skilled Park in the first match in a blockbuster weekend of sport on the Gold Coast.

Scott Prince hopes to get along to QClash4 with a win under his belt from the NRL derby.

Yeah I am looking forward to it, it’s an outstanding opportunity for the Gold Coast community to get behind both teams, we take on the Broncos on the Friday night and the SUNS take on the Lions on the Saturday so hopefully we will be smiling all round on the Sunday for both Gold Coast teams.

The Titan’s skipper said he will then join his Broncos rival Ben Hannant at Metricon Stadium the next day to cheer on the GC SUNS in QClash4.

“I want to go out there and watch them on the Saturday, and hopefully I will have a smile on my face after a win on the Friday night.”

Hannant said he’s a Gold Coast boy through and through despite playing for the Brisbane rugby league franchise up the road.

QClash is definitely going to be the SUNS for me. I’m a Gold Coast boy so the new team came in and I’ll definitely be supporting the Gold Coast, I have a soft spot for Brisbane but it’s the SUNS all the way!

Hannant is a big fan of the inter city double header and is calling on sports fans across the South East to get behind the concept and enjoy a weekend away on the Gold Coast.

“I’m really excited about the game on the Gold Coast, to be able to play against the Titans is almost like a home game for me and then go and watch the AFL on Saturday and see the two local teams go around again I think it’s an awesome weekend of footy. I’m really looking forward to it and I hope everyone gets down and supports both teams,” he said.

Gold Coast SUNS midfield ace David Swallow says his team mates are desperate to level the QClash ledger and reclaim the cup that became their first piece of AFL silverware after just six matches of Toyota AFL Premiership football.

The Lions got one up on us this year and hopefully we can get one back at Metricon Stadium. You don’t want to lose to your cross town rival and so from that perspective it’s a little more exciting and I guess the players get up for it a little bit more.
