Following Gold Coast’s drought-breaking NEAFL victory over the Sydney Swans, five SUNS players were recognised by the coaches and umpires in the NEAFL MVP Award.

Sydney ruckman Darcy Cameron received maximum votes, while experienced midfielder Aaron Hall was the top vote-getter for the Gold Coast with seven.

Hall had a big impact on the game, recording 33 disposals and two goals to go with six tackles.

Rookie Jacob Dawson put in another impressive performance and was rewarded with six votes.

Similar to his performance in recent weeks, Dawson played a selfless role for the team in shutting down Sydney’s James Rose, while still gathering 33 touches for himself.

Will Brodie returned from injury to play an important role, helping the SUNS win the contested footy to finish with 31 disposals, six tackles and a goal.

The voting for the Gold Coast was rounded out by Brad Scheer (two) and Callum Ah Chee (one), who both managed to find plenty of the footy as the SUNS dominated the disposal count.

Dawson’s six votes sees him retain a place in the MVP Award’s top ten, with Sydney Uni’s Tom Young leading the competition after four rounds of footy.

The NEAFL MVP Award is presented to the player uniquely judged the best in the competition by a combination of umpire and coachs votes.

The votes are submitted post-game cast on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis. As such, the maximum amount of votes a single player can earn per match is 10 – courtesy of the maximum five votes from both umpires and coaches.
