Queenslander Clay Cameron played his 18th game for the Gold Coast SUNS on Saturday against Carlton, a game that coach Rodney Eade described as ‘his best game for the club’.

After starting the night as a third tall forward, Cameron was switched into defence in to cover the absence of Rory Thompson and performed the role with aplomb.

The 21-year-old thwarted multiple opposition forward forays to finish the game with 18 disposals, seven marks, five rebound 50s, five tackles and a goal to highlight how dangerous he can be at both ends of the ground.

“That’s one of my main strengths, being versatile and playing anywhere the coach needs me,” Cameron told BLK RAW post-game.

“I think getting the confidence from the first goal always helps and then obviously took that down to defence and I thought I played alright.”

The SUNS have kicked off the 2016 season with three straight wins to generate a strong positive vibe around Metricon Stadium.

With Queensland rivals Brisbane awaiting Gold Coast this weekend in the eleventh edition of the QClash, the SUNS have the opportunity to create club history with a 4-0 start.

“I think all the boys are pretty upbeat at the moment,” Cameron said.

“It’s a great culture at the club and looking forward to taking that onto Brisbane and not taking them too lightly.

“We’ve got to build a winning culture here. Obviously last year wasn’t great so every win’s important in this competition.”
