With the AFL Trade Period commencing on Monday, the rumour mill is running rife around the country with a handful of news outlets linking potential moves in and out of the Gold Coast SUNS.

goldcoastfc.com.au will advise fans of any trade as soon as it has been lodged with the AFL, however below is a summary of what media around the country are reporting.

IN’s

Daniel Currie

Gold Coast SUNS football boss Marcus Ashcroft confirmed North Melbourne ruckman Daniel Currie will join the club, with a deal imminent for the opportunity-starved 26-year-old.

“He wants to come to our footy club, he’s indicated that to North Melbourne. It’s just a matter of doing that deal at the right time,” Ashcroft said.

“That deal will be done sooner rather than later.”

Jeremy Howe

After being linked to a number of clubs throughout the year, Trade Radio and the Herald Sun is reporting that Jeremy Howe has selected Collingwood as his preferred destination.

The Herald Sun’s Sam Edmund tweeted that Howe’s contract offer from the Pies was greater than that of the SUNS and North Melbourne and his relationship with Nathan Buckley was a factor in the decision.

Paul Seedsman

Despite being heavily linked to the Gold Coast SUNS, and touring the club's Metricon Stadium headquarters, Collingwood defender Paul Seedsman has decided to join Adelaide.

The Herald Sun reports Seedsman has chosen to continue his career at West Lakes, turning his back on offers from the SUNS, North Melbourne and Sydney.

OUT's

Charlie Dixon

Marcus Ashcroft admits the club would have preferred to have completed the Charlie Dixon deal with Port Adelaide already, but is confident a satisfactory trade will be completed sooner rather than later.

Dixon publicly declared his decision to move to the South Australian club at the end of the season after seven years of service at the SUNS – including his time as an inaugural player.

Ashcroft confirmed on Melbourne radio station SEN that the Power have offered their first pick, No. 10, for the powerhouse forward, but Gold Coast are still waiting to see what the second part of the deal will look like, whether that is in the form of a pick this year or in the future.

“We would have hoped that the Charlie deal would have been done by now. But having said that, we all know that Charlie’s committed to Port Adelaide, Port Adelaide has committed to him. So it’s just a matter of trying to finalise the deal,” Ashcroft told SEN’s The Run Home on Wednesday afternoon.

“We all know they’ve offered up pick ten – which we think is good – we just need to get the second piece of that which is we think another draft pick, whether it be for this year or more likely next year.

“At the end of the day, from our discussions with Port, it’s pretty clear as to what we’re after. We’re not saying that’s it and we move on, but we’re more trying to have some flexibility with discussions so that both parties can be happy.”

Zac Smith

Geelong has clearly been the biggest player in this year’s trade period thus far, and they may add Gold Coast ruckman Zac Smith to their list of highly prized acquisitions.

The Cats secured the services of Patrick Dangerfield, Scott Selwood and Lachie Henderson all within the open three days of the trade period, and will now turn their attention to Smith, according to Ashcroft.

“With Geelong, it’s taken to this point to get serious with discussions. They’ve had a bit on their plate with the players they’ve acquired and they’ve done really well,” Ashcroft said.

“So with Zac, we’re happy to try and get Zac to the Geelong footy club. It’s just a matter of trying to get that deal done.

“So right now it’s really what Geelong have available to give. When you think about it they’ve got pick 46, which is third round. So we’re talking around that mark at the moment, but again because they’ve had so much on and they’ve only just finalised Lachie Henderson today we’ll start talking seriously with them about Zac Smith.”
